The Cynical Patriot

As we count down to both partys’ conventions and the coronation of another two career politicians; both of whom promising change, and neither delivering more than the same old marionetic dancing of the party line. I can’t help but feel a sense of dejavu, of history repeating itself. It wasn’t but four years ago when Homeland Security routinely spout off ominous warnings of every color of the rainbow. Meaningless anouncements designed to put the populace on edge, but provided little in the way of information, direction or comfort. Every couple weeks major anouncements were made to reassure the country of their need and their requirement of the Great Protector.

Now leading up to the conventions and with Iraq trying to kick us out of their sovereign land, the mighty Republicans are at a loss for another mortal enemy. How better to build support behind McCain, but to lean on the Maverick’s strengths as a modern day King Arthur. And who better to cast as that immortal villan than the sleeping giant of Mother Russia? McCain’s the man with the experience against the Red’s. Heck, he’s already survived them once.

Don’t tell me the fed’s didn’t know about a Russian buildup on the Georgian border. For that matter, Georgia’s own transgressions against the breakaway republic. If we really wanted to protect eastern Europe from Iranian missiles, covert installation of anti-missile batteries could have been easily accomplished. Is there really any need to trot Ms. Rice out in front of the cameras to sign defense treaties with Poland and to further taunt the snarling dog?

For months, Cold War era sentiments with Russia have been building. Russia has upped their defense posture, extending Bomber patrols over international waters, buzzing US warships. Siberian Oil, and today’s energy crisis are what feeds this snarling dog, who would gleefully repay for decades of Cold War scorn. America’s own greedy consumption is feeding our most virulent enemies.

For the Republicans, it is an easy trick to show Russia this familiar light. Decades of bomb shelters and air raid sirens are not such a distant memory. Obama’s weak international relations experience will be his downfall, and the Republicans will have bought themselves another election.

But at what cost?

The gap is already narrowing.

“I love it when a plan comes together.”

Senator McCain abandoned Arizonans a long time ago. His Immigration amnesty plan is a slap in the face to all Arizonans who must deal with the by-products of an unsecure border.

High medical costs, high insurance costs and crime in general, is what we deal with on a daily basis. Don’t read me a statistic about how the percentage of crimes in Chicago aren’t any higher by illegal immigrants. Such immigrants came to the US to work, not to raise hell and have babies, on American’s dime. Thats what happens when you live along the border.

I’ve been in vehicle accidents with Mexican nationals that our border guards allow to cross into our state without proper vehicle insurance. The federal government knowingly and willingly allow these people to violate state law. I’d love to send the repair bill to George W., but I know it won’t be paid.

My house has been burglarized and vandalized by illegal immigrants, they were caught when one used my pistol to shoot at her live-in boyfriend. McCain would rather send our troops over to protect the lives of middle eastern people, rather than to protect our own citizens in their own homes.

That’s why this November, this registered republican, this native Arizonan, will be voting for Bob Barr. McCain’s only interest is furthering his political career, not in serving the people he has sworn to help. He hasn’t done a damn thing to help the people of Arizona since he started this campaign. I need a conservative that is interested in securing this nations borders and protecting its sovereign citizens.

On June 25, 2008, The Yuma Daily Sun reported the release of a murder suspect by a unnamed Mexican Judge. The victim in the case was US Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar. Agent Aguilar was run down in the Imperial Sand Dunes while deploying spike strips to stop a suspected drug/human smuggler. The suspect was fleeing pursuing agents and was trying to get back into Mexico.

While we could spend days talking about the futility of current immigration policy, my focus is on the tragedy of the loss of Agent Aguilar and the subsequent travesty of justice when a Mexican judge released the suspected killer. I had the honor of meeting Agent Aguilar’s family as they transitioned out of Yuma; I met a family who was trying to figure out how they were going to cope with the loss of their husband and father. Two young children who will never truly know their father, and a wife who will have to figure out how to provide for her family both financially and emotionally. The dust hasn’t even settled, and the Mexican government has coldly poured salt into this young family’s wounds. The man that killed their father is still out there.

I don’t know what upsets me more, the fact that the American press refused to run with this story; or, that a corrupt Mexican government let this monster free. This case now amounts to no more than state sponsored murder and smuggling. Today’s myopic media would rather focus on Lilo’s eating habits or Brangelina’s pending births. Where are you CNN? Fox? MSNBC? Hello, is anyone listening? Doesn’t anyone care?

Has this world gone so wrong, that the most viable answer to have justice served is sending Dog the Bounty Hunter back to Mexico for a second tour of duty? Is that what we’ve come to? A truly sad commentary of today’s American culture. Our reality TV based, celebrity obsessed focus is sickening.

How I long for a President with a spine, one who will protect its citizens first. One who will protect its sovereign land. Instead we have a President who allows our public servants to be murdered by illegal, foreign sponsored terrorists. A President who allows other nations to run roughshod over American foreign policy, in order to appease a certain growing demographic group. All the while, sending out troops overseas to protect non-Americans and jacking up our gas prices. Don’t get me started on the inumerable armed incursions by Mexican military units that supposedly, “Got lost.” Of course they were lost, I’m sure they weren’t providing an armed escort for some cartel or another. What would FDR do? What would Teddy do? What would Reagan have done?

To Agent Aguilar’s family I offer my most profound condolences, you have already suffered enough. Your family’s sacrifice for this nation and your husband’s defense of our nation does not go unnoticed. And in no way do you deserve this injustice. You are my inspiration to bring light to those things in our society that are wrong. On this fourth day of July, I thank you, and I thank all others who have sacrificed for this once great nation. May we someday be great again.
